An Artistic Take on Population by Mathieu Lehanneur

Mathieu Lehanneur is again in the news for making an art piece which speaks about the whole world. This creation speaks more of his intelligence than his artistic prowess. He has created urns, which reveal the population pattern of different countries.
Taking up demographic data and turning it into an aesthetic art piece is a sheer work of intelligence and skill.
These enamel textured urns might strike as just another artistic showpiece, but there is more to it, these pieces have a varying shape because each step in the curve represents the population of that place in that particular year.
The urn with the largest number of curves is the one which represents Russia. It is not surprising, as the population of Russia has varied consistently, could be because of World war or the much famed recession which hit it recently. On the contrary, Egypt and U.S.A have broader bases which represent the increase in population in the recent years.

These pieces have been made taking statistics of places till the year 2007, they stand 29.5″ tall and are priced at $9,000(6,000 euros). The height can be regulated as per the demands of the customers. The purchases can be directly made from the site mathieulehanneur.com.

Located in the Los Feliz district of Los Angeles, California, you are looking at Megan Fox’s latest real estate acquisition, this impressive $2,94 million mansion. The place stretches 5,200 sq. ft. and houses 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, a spa, a huge soaking tub and a giant outdoor pool. The furniture is a combination of old and new, with a lot of interesting details. We really took a liking in the piano room, with the wooden centered table, painting and the fireplace. Bedrooms are painted in white and each of them has at least one distinctive element: a door with shelves, interesting and luxurious carpets, classic chairs. Every room can be characterized by volume and a particular style. The place also “offers” amazing views on the city and the near-by hills. -via TMZ

Herms has certainly learned to stay in vogue. The new collection of wristwatches launched by The Herms will satisfy every man’s fantasy to wear bright colors. This design not only retains the classic clipper but also blends the funky colors with the classic chic.
The watch comes with a sturdy metal timepiece which is connected to the jazzy wrist bands. I might have exaggerated the colored wrist bands (in case), but you dont need to worry as the colors perfectly compliment the metal in the watch. It has a 44mm titanium case and a Valjoux 7750 movement which takes accuracy to whole new level. The tiny tots on the hands of the watch and the cast iron colored dial jibe with each other.

If you become a fan of this collection then there is more for you, it will launch four other models, namely, a 39.5mm automatic, 36mm chrono, 26mm and 28mm quartz, soon. These watches will range between a modest $5,000 and a somewhat modest $10,000.
Owning to its flashy yet stylish colors and the waterproof frame, these funky wrist-band type watches can be sported while playing an outdoor game near the sea or while taking a casual stroll by the beach.

This small, but stylish home is located on the California shores, close to the beach and is meant for weekend gateways. The exterior, a modest but great looking building, with a metal roof and countryside feel creates an impression on the interior as well. Tall, white walls, plank floors and open ceilings really do great in optimizing the space. Wood is preset everywhere, giving a rustic and classic touch. The two bedrooms feature king-size beds and spacious wardrobes. Comfortable and warm, this place is quite inviting. Even though this house is situated in a green area, this does not have any serious effect on the ocean views; the owners can enjoy a great scenery from every room of the residence. In addiction, an outdoor terrace, perfect for enjoying the breeze.- via Chris Cortazzo

It is well established thy brushing with an electronic tooth brush improves overall dental hygiene. I use the Sonicare and my dental hygienist always comments on how clean my teeth are. On my recent trip to the pediatric dentist I was told that the Sonicare for kids is highly recommended to establish lifelong good dental care. I tried using my adult Sonicare with my tots with not so favorable results because they were bothered by the vibration. The difference with the specially designed Sonicare for kids is that this model has varying modes that ramp up the sonic vibration so your Tot will get used to it. It starts off slow, in other words, not so ticklish and gradually will increase with each use until it reaches the optimal speed. At which point your Tot is on his/her way to properly maintaining the adult teeth they will be using for the rest of their life. Philips Sonicare for Kids Toothbrush at Amazon for $69.99.

Cococozy always has eye pleasing design morsels to share. Here, she gives us three very easy room makeovers done by Jennifer Jones, principal designer at Niche Interiors, a San Francisco based design firm. To achieve an updated look, you have to keep things simple and clutter free, and add a drop of style savvy. The before photo of this corner room didn't strike me as bad until I got a load of this transformation! Personally, I would have worked with those two Danish Modern chairs. However, see what you think of the rooms and then see how it's done.

24 Hershey's Kisses in pink and red foil (stock up on the Valentine's colors for those spring-time occasions!)

My Showroom Tour of Room & Board, Part 1

Last week I had the opportunity to take a private tour of my local Room & Board, and, I must say, in our mass-produced world, walking through their showroom is always a breath of fresh air. If you haven’t heard of Room & Board, here’s all you need to know: they sell furniture and accessories of timeless design and impeccable quality. The retailer achieves these feats by establishing relationships with family-owned companies who share their commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability.
Because of the relationships R & B has fostered for more than 25 years, they are able to set a specific aesthetic direction, designing 90 percent of the furnishings they sell, which, as my tour guide Preston put it, are ‘steeped in classic design.’ Their inspiration is Shaker, Asian, Danish Modern, Mid-Century Modern and Arts & Crafts. If that sounds like recipe for an unfocused collection, let me assure you, it is not. It’s the very reason why Room & Board pieces can seamless bridge the gap between centuries, countries and even generations.

Take the Shaker-inspired dining room pieces pictured above, from the new Adams Collection, for example. The clean lines of the cabinet and extension table pair perfectly with the mid-mod grasscloth pendant lamp and Danish modern Doyle chairs.

The next vignette shares those same straight Shaker lines, but the inspiration is definately Asian, as evidenced the table and cabinet’s hand-tooled bamboo construction. We still have the modern cylindrical lampshade but it and the Enzo leather side chairs turn the entire ensemble in a forward-looking direction.

Our straight lines have gone just a bit curvy in this grouping. The Ventura collection was surfboard-inspired and successfully marries the 21st and the middle of last century. A George Nelson saucer pendant lamp hangs from above, and the Georgia chairs upholstered in crimson and add a perfect little color pop.
Nearly all of the tables feature above are customizable, not only in finish, but in size....to the inch. You read that right. You can order tables customized to the inch at Room & Board. (The same can be said for most of the rugs they offer as well.) If you think that level of customization is remarkable, you’ll want to take a look at the Linear Collection.

A piece from this collection can suit a dining room, or any room in your home for that matter. It is the customizer’s dream come true. Basically, you pick the cabinet that fits your space, including height, width, depth, wood, hardware and inserts to fit your needs. Choose from single doors, double doors, media doors, drawers, shelves, wine racks, and pullout or drop-down work surfaces. As you can imagine, it’s like building the cabinet yourself--without the Allen wrench.

Because I spent about 2 hours at Room & Board and took over 100 pictures, I have much more to share. Come back tomorrow for the second installment of my 3 part series. We’ll be visiting the bedroom next!

Designer and author Emily Anderson of Eco-Chic Weddings fame turns her attention to interiors with her new book Eco-Chic Home. In its pages, Emily tells us how to embrace sustainability stylishly. It starts with imagining all those cast-offs as something else, something useful and--yes--even pretty.

Room by room, the Emily tackles fun and easy projects that re-use hand-me-downs, thrift store and garage sale finds and everything in between. For example, in the entry way section of the book, there's a hanging pocket organizer made out of men's button-down shirts, and in the dining room one of the projects featured is a three-tiered tray.

These are only 2 of the 60 projects you can find in the book, which not only highlights entry ways and dining rooms, but living rooms, kitchens and bedrooms as well. There's also a section on lighting ideas and holidays and gift-giving.
Eco-Chic Home will be available in May 2010. Visit Amazon to pre-order.

All Photo Images: MossOnline
You know those High End/Low End photos in magazines that illustrate how you can get a high end look for a lot less? Well, these very high end, artsy coffee table designs sold by Moss could be DIY-able for much much less. Granted, original designs are unbeatable, but what if you just need a statement making coffee table?
Above is a cast aluminum fruit box, by designer Andrea Salvetti, that sells for $2,695.00.

Next, we have the Styln' Viper coffee table, designed by Johann Grawunder. It's made with liquid, rubber painted wood and accomodates two flourescent bulbs. Now, this can be yours for $7500.00.

The concrete and wool Resilience coffee table, designed by Julia Lohman of the UK, is a bit more complicated in it's autobiography. This one doesn't even show a price, you have to ask.

The Other coffee table , designed by Ilse Crawford and constructed from MDF, steel feet and decorative mirror surfaces includes a hidden drawer done in a distinctive color. This beauty goes for $7025.00.

If the zigzag mirrored table is a little tony for you, why not settle on one of Ms. Crawford's smaller mirrored tables for $4345.00. I can see fiddling around making one of these on a snowy day (with a box of about a million uniformly cut square mirrors).

And last, but not least, is another fruit box design by Andrea Salvetti. The cast and polished aluminum
crates can be used together to create statment making shelving. One small crate goes for $1415.00.
The practical thing about the aluminum fruit box designs is that they can be used outdoors.
