From Shop MAC Swatches, Eye Shadow Quads via Beauty and Fashion Tech The Shop MAC-Cook MAC Collection is full of fun spring shades. For soft shades, look to the Vera collection, while for shades that shout, look to Shop MAC and Cook MAC. Shop MAC includes three new eye shadow quads which I have photos and swatches of below.

First up is the Shop MAC Call Me Bubbles Palette.

From right to left are Call Me Bubbles swatches of the shades Call Me Bubbles, Fresh Daily, Full of Flavour, and Brash

Next is the MAC Shop and Drop Palette.

From left to right are Shop MAC swatches of the Shop and Drop shades Fresh Daily, Hypnotizing, Power Boosted, and Shop and Drop.

Finally, there is the Colour Added quad.

Below are MAC Colour Added swatches with the shades Laundry Daze, Colour Added, Pre-Packaged, and Self-Serve.

The pigment in the quads is pretty good. I have had a few times with recent collections where I thought the pigment was not as strong as it should be for MAC, but these tend to live up to the quality I would expect, and some of the colors are pretty interesting as well.

Bobbi Brown Angel Pink Rich Color Lipgloss
Bobbi Brown Angel Pink Rich Color Lipgloss
Bobbi Brown Angel Pink Rich Color Lipgloss ($23.00 for 0.24 fl. oz.) is described simply as “a soft pink.” If you’re not familiar with this particular gloss formula, it’s supposed to yield “the full color coverage of a lipstick” with “the shine of a gloss” while feeling like a balm when worn. It’s also supposed to “moisturize, condition, and last throughout the day without feathering.”
Angel Pink is a warm, yellow-toned medium pink with a glossy shine. The color itself is creamy and mostly opaque, though because of its creamier finish, it does settle into lip lines slightly. The only gloss that seemed a bit similar was MAC Tour de Fabulous, which is a bit less pink and has lots of shimmer. It did remind me of a yellow-toned version of NYX Stella. Chanel Empire is pinker and darker.
Bobbi Brown gets a lot of things right with this gloss formula–it’s as opaque as it’s supposed to be, has a healthy shine as a gloss ought to, and feels comfortable when worn. I don’t know if I’d go as far as to say it’s like a lip balm, because it has a slicker, more slippery texture–more akin to your average non-sticky lipgloss. It lasts between four and five hours on me, but it is a good moisturizing gloss. My lips never feel dry after wearing it, even if I’ve stretched the wear to six hours. This formula is mint-scented but has no real taste.
Where to Buy: Bobbi Brown, $23

 FINAL THOUGHTS
There are many things to love about this formula; it's moisturizing, wears well, feels nice on, and gives opaque color coverage. The only downside is the creaminess that does cause some color to settle into lip lines.

Bobbi Brown Rose Gold Shimmerbrick
Bobbi Brown Rose Gold Shimmerbrick
Bobbi Brown Rose Gold Shimmerbrick ($39.00 for 0.40 oz.) is supposed to create a “soft, warm pink glow.” Each shade can also be used as an eyeshadow. When blended together, it takes on a warm copper with just a hint of pink/rose. It has a frosted shimmer-sheen and has enough pigmentation to give cheeks a little color (more in the form of warmth) as well as highlight. Laura Mercier Rose Rendezvous is a little darker but similar. MAC Redhead looks nearly identical to me.
The first shade is a soft light-medium pink with a frosted sheen. The second shade is a warm yellow with an iridescent pink sheen. The third shade is a rosy copper with a frosted sheen. The fourth shade is a broze with red undertones and a metallic sheen. The fifth and final shade is a medium coppered rose (it’s more orange than the third shade).
Because all five shades have a high level of frost in their finishes, this is as a very shimmery, high sheen product. If you prefer a softer, subtler, more refined glow (think Guerlain and Chanel), this will likely be too much. If you like products like MAC Mineralize Skinfinishes, Laura Mercier’s Rendezvous, or Estee Lauder’s Illuminating Gelees, you’ll probably like the finish of this. It does ever-so-slightly emphasize pores; I’m sensitive to products that to do this, but it’s minimal enough that you don’t see it unless you’re standing a few inches from the mirror. If you want a subtler shimmer, try using a stippling brush instead of a regular blush or highlighting brush.
I tested out the wear of this Shimmerbrick last week, and it wore for about seven hours before looking slightly faded after eight hours. The texture of the powder is very soft, and it’s not at all gritty–with as much shimmer as there is, it still feels finely-milled and applies incredibly smoothly.

 FINAL THOUGHTS
If you love shimmer and sheen, you'll enjoy Bobbi Brown's Shimmerbricks--they're full of shimmer with a really soft, smooth application and texture. Rose Gold has a lot of warmth to it without being orange.

Share your most meaningful moment from the past year.
Life can be so hectic and busy sometimes I can feel like I am along for the ride but fail to embrace all the special moments. I have really enjoyed the MeaningFul Beauty discussion on finding our most meaningful moment.
When I look back on the last year my most meaningful moment has to be watching as my children have blossomed and grown. With three kids 7, 5, and 2 I got a little lost in the day to day grind and failed to appreciate the little moments.
Watching my oldest really master her reading skills and find she has a love and talent for soccer. Watching my second learn to ride without training wheels in one try and find he is very gifted at math. Thinking about my youngest and the fact he has learned to walk, start talking and hold his own in a house of 5. So much has happened in the last year and when I stop to think about all the great moments it reminds me of how blessed I am.
Tell me what your most meaningful moment was in the last year for a chance to win one of 10 complete skin care Anti-Age Systems from Meaningful Beauty.

Controversial singer Lana Del Rey is all anyone can talk about these days. Whether it’s her SNL performance, her hair, her lips, her nails, her voice – people have a very strong opinion about her. According to HuffPo, the singer has alreadylanded a modeling contractand scored a huge sartorial score in posing forthe cover ofVogue UK.
Despite the attention, Del Rey is getting a lot of criticism in the lips department.
In anew interview in the New York Times’Tmagazine,Del Rey opens up to writer Jacob Brown about that facial feature everyone (well, everyone on the Internet) has been buzzing about.
Her lips. Del Rey insists they’re real:
“It’s fine,” she assures me. “They’re real lips, I mean. In real life my lips don’t look that big. I think because I cartoonized the footage of myself in the video for ‘Video Games’ things look exaggerated.”

From MAC Vera Swatches and Review, Metallic Pigments via Beauty and Fashion Tech The MAC Vera Collection for spring 2012 is one of my favorite spring collections. It is full of soft and pretty shades with a spring floral theme that tends to fit my own personal style. The collection also has three sets of crushed metallic pigments and I do love the MAC pigments.

I got two sets of the MAC Vera Pigments to swatch. The first, and my favorite, is the Aloha set, which will also work very nicely in summer when gold and bronze shades always become popular. I decided to include photos of the pigment covers here too, since they give a nice sense of the shades.

Here are MAC Vera Aloha Pigment swatches of the shades Aloha, Shifting Sands, Campfire, and Lantern Light.

Next is the Strawberry Patch Pigment set.

Below are MAC Vera Strawberry Patch Pigment Swatches of the shades Strawberry Patch, Moon Rose, Rose Light, and Star Crystal.

Although listed as a frost, the Strawberry Patch shade was not milled as finely, and was a bit more like a glitter. I love the shade though!

Fashion 101 for College Girls

From Fashion 101 for College Girls via Beauty and Fashion Tech Being in college makes it hard to stay in style. College makes girls want to put on their sweatpants, throw their hair up and forget about make up every day. Believe me, Ive been there. College can really stress people out and girls probably find it difficult to keep up with the latest fashion trends. For those of you overwhelmed college females looking for some new fashion tips, here is what I have found to be cute and easy styles to pull off.

The infinity scarf
Scarves are cute and practical especially for places where it is cold in the winter. The new fashion trend that has taken off everywhere is the infinity scarf. It is just like what it sounds. This scarf has no beginning and no end. It is one continuous circle that you wrap around your neck a few times. They are very cute, comfy and affordable.
Elbow patch sweaters
You may have seen this style in the past on older men and grandpas. Big chunky sweaters with elbow patches are no longer things of the past. They are now considered in style and very fashionable for girls. I wouldnt suggest going through your grandpas closet to find these types of sweaters, but places like Forever 21, H & M, and Charlotte Russe all sell this hot commodity.
Tights
Tights used to be itchy and uncomfortable when I had to wear them to church as a five year old. Tights are a new way to spice up an outfit. Wearing a dress and tights is easy and also comfortable at the same time. Instead of wearing sweats, throw on some tights! They are a lot cuter than those old baggy things that I know youre thinking about putting on. Dont do it! Slip on some cute tights that have a pattern to them with a solid dress. I guarantee you will get a lot of compliments.
Lace-up boots
Boots have been all the rage for a couple of years now. This season, they have changed up the typical boot though. The newest trend with boots is the lace up. These boots are easy to throw on over jeans, leggings or tights. They have a lot of different colors but the most popular ones are brown, black and tan. I have a pair of beige ones and I wear them with everything. They are very practical in winter and they can dress up any outfit in an instant.
Lacy tops
Another item that I have noticed that has become quite popular is the lacy top. Long sleeved or short sleeved, this shirt is a really high fashion item. These shirts are really lacy and girls can wear a cute, colored undershirt to make the lace stand out.
TOMS shoes
Im sure you have all seen and heard about these shoes. Apparently, every time a pair of these shoes is bought, a pair goes to a poor child in Africa who does not have shoes. Although TOMS can be really expensive, they are for a good cause. They are also very light and comfortable shoes that are perfect for walking to and from campus. These popular shoes are perfect for girls to slip on when they need to go out and walk around.

Guerlain Chant d’Aromes (103) Rouge Automatique Lipstick
Guerlain Chant d’Aromes (103) Rouge Automatique Lipstick
Guerlain Chant d’Aromes (103) Rouge Automatique Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a warm beige-brown with a lighter beige shimmer. The color coverage is mostly opaque. MAC Dressmaker, Dressmaker is similar but a little more orange and has less shimmer. MAC Viva Glam VI is a little redder but they look similar on my lips. Guerlain Grace is also similar but less warm. MAC Lush Amber is similar but less opaque.
Even though Rouge G still comes out on top as my favorite lipstick (just ever-so-slightly), Rouge Automatique is easily in my top ten (maybe top five even). It’s long-wearing, lightweight, feels comfortable to wear, and the finish is always luminous, which gives lips a healthy, luscious look. The wear is between four to eight hours, but Chant d’Aromeswears just over five for me when I trialed it. The consistency is creamy enough to enable an easy glide across the lips, but it’s not so full of slip that it slides around the lips. For more packaging photos, please see this post.
Where to Buy: Nordstrom, $35.

 FINAL THOUGHTS
Rouge Automatique is a top-notch formula, because the creaminess of the texture enables it to glide on, making for an easy application, but it's lightweight and never slippery, so it stays on and wears for hours.

China Glaze Hunger Games Nail Lacquer
China Glaze & Hunger Games Collection: Colours from the Capitol
China Glaze Colours from the Capitol Collection is slated for March launch. It features twelve shades with each shade being named after a different district. This post features these six: Hook and Line, Luxe and Lush, Mahogany Magic, Riveting, Smoke and Ashes, and Stone Cold. Reader Kim did an excellent job explaining the names-to-district component.

Hook and Line is a warm gray with threads of pale silver. This shade is named after District 4 for fishing. It’s opaque in two coats, but this is a little thick, streaky, and has a ton of brush strokes. The color is a little reminiscent of Zoya Dove but it’s darker and warmer.
Luxe and Lush is a duochrome top coat with various sizes of flakies that reflect gold and pink with a little blue. This shade is named after District 1 for luxury. I applied two coats so you could see it on its own as well as over Smoke and Ashes. I don’t have a dupe for this shade. The closest I could think of were Zoya’s Fleck Effects.
Mahogany Magic is a warm brown with a yellow base. It was opaque in two coats. This shade is named for District 7 for lumber. Illamasqua Taint is a cooler-toned brown. Chanel Khaki Rose is lighter.
Riveting is a vibrant orange with orange-tinted gold shimmer. It was opaque in two coats. This shade is named for District 3 for technology. Zoya Tanzy is a little lighter and has more shimmer/glitter. Nubar Arencia is similar but a touch darker. Milani Metal Gear is darker and the shimmer doesn’t appear as light.
Smoke and Ashes is an inky blue-based black with green and blue shimmer. It was opaque in two coats. This shade is named for District 12 for mining. The base color reminded me of Zoya Cynthia a bit, but it’s blacker. Cult Nails Living Water has a similar look but the shimmer is more dominant and leans bluer.
Stone Cold is a soft black with silver shimmer–and it’s matte. This shade is named for District 2 for masonry. It’s similar to Nubar Midnight and MAC Butterfly. Orly Iron Butterfly should also be a dupe.

The consistency of Hook and Line was the worst; a little thick, not quite goopy but close, which all resulted in a streaky finish. I had better luck with Riveting, Smoke and Ashes, and Stone Cold, which were easy to apply and didn’t have any consistency concerns–they weren’t too thick or too thin and applied evenly without bubbling or pooling along the sides. Luxe and Lush has a thicker consistency, which actually helps the flakies distribute fairly evenly over the nail. Mahogany Magicwas on the thicker side, but it wasn’t as problematic as Hook and Line.

 FINAL THOUGHTS
This set of six was better overall compared to the six from part one--only two shades gave me problems, while the other four were easy to work with and had a good formula.

LOreal Infallible 24 Hour Eyeshadows, Cream or Powder?

Often times Ill forgo a makeup brush for my fingers. You get a nice layered look that way, and its usually more subtle and natural. The LOrealInfallible24 Hour Eyeshadow ($7.92 US) is the perfect eyeshadow for this purpose.
These cream-powder hybrid, or pressed pigments, have an extremely soft texture that just melts from the fingertips onto the eyelids. In fact, theyre so soft that they come with a plastic stopper to keep the pigments compressed!

Eternal Sunshine is a warm yellow with gold shimmer. Applied sheerly, it brightens the eyes beautifully and can also be used as a highlight. Be warned that it can look very yellow if packed on since theInfallible24 Hour Eyeshadows are so pigmented.

Bronzed Taupe is a medium warm brown with the gorgeous purple undertones that make it a taupe. Ive been loving this as a lid color, but I can also use it to line the eyes since its so smooth and dark.

Its not surprising that these are so rich and saturated. Theyre pressed pigments after all! However these swatches make it hard to see their true effect. The Infallible 24 Hour Eyeshadows tend to reflect light, so these two look much lighter in the photo.

No makeup brushes in this eye look, just fingertips! Im wearing Bronzed Taupe on the lid and Eternal Sunshine as a blend-out and highlight. The creamy, almost metallic looking finish lend the eyes a wide-eyed glowy appearance.
Have you tried cream-powder hybrid eyeshadows yet? Do you enjoy working with pigments as eyeshadows?

5 Perfectly Pink Lipsticks for Valentine’s Day
First, truth be told, I could not stick to just FIVE measly choices for pink lipsticks that would be fitting for Valentine’s Day. These are just my first five, so there are more to come. This is a good mix of pinks available, but the next one will focus on brighter pinks

Laura Mercier Raspberry Sorbet — lovely soft raspberry pink
OCC Femme — pale, light, but opaque yellow-toned pink
Bobbi Brown Cosmic Raspberry — brightened raspberry pink
Giorgio Armani #507 — light-medium pink, not too bright, not too dark
Chanel Charme — semi-sheer pink with subtle cool undertones

What’s your pink pick for Valentine’s Day?
