The weather outside couldn’t get any drearier, but Nicholas Kirkwood’s spring line instantly breathed some life into this shoe blogger’s life. The spring 2012 footwear collection is said to be inspired by florals and tropics from Kirkwood’s trip to Bali. While this is certainly a 180 degrees departure from his sexy, fierce style of past collections and collaborations, these botanical beauties are pieces I’d love to see growing in my closet.

Secrets of Stylists: Exclusive Interview with Sasha Charnin Morrison + Givaway

Fashion industry veteran Sasha Charnin Morrison gives you a glimpse inside the world of fashion and stylists with her amazing book, Secrets of Stylists: An Insider's Guide to Styling the Stars (published by Chronicle Books). As the current fashion director at US Weekly, Morrison has over 20 years experience working in the biz for such publications as Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Allure, Vanity Fair, and more. She has her finger on the pulse of trends and celebrity fashion, all with an amazing sense of humor. She loves a very high heel and if you follow her on twitter or tumblr, you'll see the many nuggets of fashion eye candy she'll share each day.

What I love about Secrets of Stylists is that it goes deeper into what it takes to be a stylist. As an addict to the Bravo fashion stylist reality TV shows of Rachel Zoe and Brad Goreski, this book is a godsend. From the nitty gritty details of inventory to the drool-worthy trays of high-end jewelry and racks of gowns, Morrison gives you a complete in-depth look into this glamourous as well as tough as nails world. Even if you aren't looking for a career in fashion styling, the book gives you plenty of tips and advice on how to carve out your own personal style. I love, love, love all the photos of celebrities but what I love the most is the detailed photos she includes featuring sketches, supplies, array of outfits, and scribbled detailed notes a true behind the scenes peek at this fabulous world.

Book Giveaway
Just in time for fashion week! Two lucky Coquette readers will win a copy of Secrets of Stylists! Just leave a comment to this post. The giveaway ends this Friday, February 10th at 5pm PST. Good luck!

I also got a chance to talk to Sasha Charnin Morrison and ask her some very important fashion questions. Click for the interview after the jump!Natalie: What are a few of your favorite styling tips that every woman should adhere to when dressing?

Sasha: Fit is key. The clothing no matter what needs to fit you. Trends are fun but if it looks bad or "my ass looks fat" you are your best critic. You are probably right. Go with your instincts. Too tight? Dont buy it. Get your right size.

Clothing sitting around and not being worn because you were going to lose weight to fit it-is expensive and useless. Theres so much you feel good about giving away. So, nip it right away. Get yourself to a great tailor if the shoulders are too big or the cuff of a jacket or pants are too long.
Do not get sucked into dressing in whats not you or comfortable. I dont mean wearing "cozy" sloppy sweats. I mean dont go with a sharp tailored jacket that Rihanna wore and looks wrong on you. And really really educated yourself in buying accessories to change and update looks. Look online for tips. Make Google your best friend: How do you tie a scarf? How can I wear a leopard bootie? You can search all of this alone and then go out and try it.

Natalie: Whenever I get my US Weekly in the mail, I always love eyeing all the great fashion. What are some of your favorite trends right now?

Sasha: I will always love an olive parka and now with a fur scarf or collar or cuff. I love that always. I like these jersey maxi dresses from Rachel Pally and Wilt. And I love this fleece cocoon coat I own from Norma kamali. Motorcycle boots-either plain black or embellished. And really large sunglasses to hide my bags and an oversized or jumbo Chanel Classic bag.

Natalie: How do you decided what celebrity or trend to feature in the red carpet opening spread in the magazine?

Sasha: We really want the Red Carpet which usually opens the magazine to be truly a Red Carpet, aspirational/inspirational spread of the most stunning looks from the week. Very dressed up and beautiful at all times. It all needs to feel very V. I. P. The trends are pulled from street wear that celebrities wear, looks we think as a department are very strong for a season or useful-like the best underpinnings-slimmers that the stars wear...and looks for less. Hi/low. How everyone likes to mix it up.

Natalie: What are the items from your closet that you cannot live without?

Sasha: Azzedine Alaia hiking boots, Norma Kamali sweatshirt cocoon coat, Jersey tops, skirts and dresses from Rachel Pally and Wilt, Gap legging jeans in grey, a big, black knit eternity scarf from Gap, oversized sunglasses from Prada or Grey Ant and my 5000 bags.

Natalie: Do you have advice for how a stylish gal can consistently dress up for an evening out on a budget?

Sasha: Think about a look you want. Scan H&M, Forever21, Zara, Express, ASOS. All of these sites are reproducing looks for less and they suggest in little boxes what to pair with those dresses. But also plan how many parties you have and see how many looks youre going to need. What can you get away with wearing more than once. If you have one black dress, dress that up and down with different accessories, shawls, faux furs, cardigans. And switch the earrings to necklaces. You can always carry out the same evening bag.

Natalie: Now that your book, Secrets of the Stylists is out, what are some of your projects you are working on now for the future?

Sasha: I would love to possibly build on the Secrets concept, as well as writing another book involving inspiration. I like this book writing. :) I also am trying to learn as much as I can about digital media and building up my Twitter base as well as my tumblr sites. I have two: Casa De Sasha and Secrets of Stylists. The stylists tumblr is getting a few variations of things that were supposed to be in the book, that didnt make it and really amazing pictures of icons. I need to know about all of this stuff because I have boys who are 9 and theyre very computer savvy so I like keeping up with them. They teach me so much. They are my future!:)

Bobbi Brown's Pretty Powerful goes 2.0 with thirty new women of all backgrounds, careers, and lifestyles to celebrate beauty in all it's unique incarnations.

What makes me feel Pretty Powerful? My focus this past year has been on de-stressing nd creating a more healthy lifestyle. I have focused more energy in trying to eat well, drink more water, and incorporate any amount of exercise into my busy daily routine. I can be pretty lazy by nature when it comes to exercise so I've been easing myself back into it. It's all about baby steps. On nice days, I try to take long dog walks with Lulu in the morning. On busy days, a five minute yoga stretch session before bed may be all I have time for. Regardless, I've come to realized after all these years of long hours on the computer, I just can't put myself and my health on the back burner anymore. Being healthy is a vital part of what keeps me feeling good in my skin and body.

Christina Pinto: The two tone shoe trend has found its way through every aspect of fashion- from handbags to hair. This is the year for sporting a stylish pair of shoes in two contrasting yet complimentary tones. The trend is making fashion waves and it is up to the loyal fashionistas to surf the tide.

Two toned shoes in an array of vibrant colors

Prada Shoes Fall/ Winter 2011-2012 Collection
The collection featured some beautiful shoes. The highlight being the lovely two toned pointed heels. The bold colors of orange, pink and azure are eye-catching in their vividness, more so due to the shape of the shoes that express elegance. The round buckle adds the appropriate detailing to the shoes, but does not diminish the style. If you are a fan of color blocks, then these shoes are just perfect for you!
Giuseppe Zanotti two-tone platform sandals

Vans Classics 2012 two tone pack

Trendy shoes for those vying for comfort and style

Stack your wardrobe with pastel hue for spring 2012

Babita Sajnani: This summer, make sure that you stock up a lot of pastel color for your dresses, accessories and even shoes, as it is going to be the most fashionable way to go this year! Pastel colors have a very soothing quality and they also appear softer to the eyes in the hot summer sun! There are a few pastel shaded garments that you absolutely cannot ignore this summer- a pair of shorts, a nice short dress and definitely some shirts and tunics to name a few. What more, designers are also teaming up pastel clothes with pastel accessories like bags and shoes that add more softness to the style. So stay cool and stylish this summer with beautiful soothing colors!

Collection of pastel hue dresses to keep you cool this spring

The pastel color trends:
Pretty pastel colors look cute and feminine and these are the in-thing this summer. Fashion trends this summer definitely hint at the wide use of pastel hues in clothes and accessories. In fact, pastel fashion keeps surfacing quite frequently during the hot summers, as the cool quotient of the colors are the key to keeping them in vogue!
However, the pastel color trend doesn’t mean that you go overboard with pastels and infuse the garments in the most inappropriate way resulting in a fashion faux-pas! There are a lot of things that you must take into account so that you do not end up with a quirky combination. If you are wearing shorts and a shirt, then try to wear undertones rather than a contrasting shade, this will help you pull off the pastel look successfully. If you want to wear something more feminine like a short skirt and a top, then you could go in with favorite combinations like a coral pink with a powder green that can be teamed up with bright colored pumps. You could always accentuate your pastel look with a light colored handbag that brings in an element of softness. However, do not try to match the look with matching shoes. If your outfit is a monotone, then you can team it up with pastel pumps or ballet shoes that look very elegant. You can also add a pastel belt or a pastel colored scarf, if you want to add more color to your single-colored attire.

There are a lot of combinations that you can try, but do not overdo it and look like a candy bar! Usher pastels in your wardrobe and try the cool summer look by first playing it safe with regular combinations and then experimenting as you go!

The collection presents a happy marriage between bold colors and various prints

Shot with a gas station as the backdrop, the campaign brings to the fore the collection that is marked by the use of myriad colors and subtle prints. However, the highlight remained the overall presentation of the line in terms of scarves, loud sunglasses and hand bags that accentuated the appeal of the campaign.

Coffee clothing to help you keep active

Christina Pinto: Starbucks used to be the only known franchise that had a huge stake in premium coffee production. However, Californian sports clothing company Virus is showing just as much interest in coffee and its potential.

StayWarm line is made of fabric that is deviced out of recycled coffee grounds

The company has found a method to use Coffee Char, also known as coffee charcoal, to produce fabric for its StayWarm clothing line. The method calls for the processing of recycled coffee grounds into natural fibers that form a suitable base layer of fabric, capable of trapping heat close to the skin.
Virus has done many reliable tests that show that the coffee garment works. It functions like a heat trap, closeting heat and maintaining a surface temperature of 10 degree Fahrenheit. Unlike most clothing, no chemical treatments or synthetic applications have been imbedded in the material.

The eco-friendly clothing line helps averting moisture formation on the skin

StayWarm has the dual benefit of not only keeping the body warm, but also averting moisture formation on the skin. Rise in body temperature commonly leads to perspiration, which is very uncomfortable. To bring an increase in comfort and to take care of this problem, the company has imbued the garment with useful additional features like UV shielding that protects you from the sun and anti-odor properties to prevent body odor.
Despite how well StayWarm works, you are advised to wear a second layer to act as a wind-barrier against the cold air since the fabric isnt wind resistant.

The clothes made of recycled coffee grounds work as a heat trap for the human body

Virus revealed its StayWarm line at the Snowsports Industries America (SIA) show held in Denver, Colorado. The clothing line has a limited range of colors, mostly dark with bright lines, although the attractiveness of the garments emerge from its sleekness and streamlined shape.
The idea of recycling coffee is agreeable with the ideals of ethical fashion, whose foremost goal is environmental sustainability.

Spice up a normal blazer with a tux look

Christina Pinto: For many women, a tux jacket can be just as desirable as an evening dress. It instills the aura of sophistication and class to the persona of every woman. If you are someone who prefer tasteful jackets to express your femininity and distinct style, try this DIY project. Follow the directions to convert a simple white blazer into a stylish tux.

The blazer turned tux helps accentuate the curves of your body

Difficulty level
Moderate
Time required
A couple of hours, depending on the skill of the person.
Resources required

Cotton sateen
Pins
Scissors
Embroidery thread and needle
Fancy buttons
Fabric glue
White blazer
Parchment paper

Instructions
a. Trace the collar and lapel
Place your blazer on a flat surface. Trace the outline of the inside of the collar and the lapel using the parchment paper as the base. Add an extra inch border around every piece, so that when you hem it later, it looks neat. Cut out the drawing.
b. Creating the chic collar and lapels
Attach the paper designs to the black cotton sateen fabric with the pins. Follow the design to cut out two lapels and two collar pieces with the fabric scissors. Wrap the edges with fabric glue to make a hem for a finished look. Another dose of fabric glue will ensure each piece is stuck firmly to its designated place. Apply pressure to all the pieces to be certain that they are fastened to the blazer.
c. The tissue in the pocket square
Most refined jackets have a tissue tucked into the pocket square. The size of the fabric will depend on the pocket square and the shape of the fabric. For the project, cut out approximately a 5 inch square piece from the same fabric. Glue the outside edge like before you did for the hem. Now, work to form a folded up handkerchief from the piece by pinching and folding the fabric. Stitch it directly onto the blazer as a faux handkerchief that gives the jacket a classic appeal. It is best to use a corresponding thread so that the stitching is not noticeable.

d. Change the buttons
Replace the existing buttons with the fancy ones.

The finished look of your new creation

Tips
You can get creative by mixing patterns and choosing bold colors for the fabric.
Frequently asked questions
Question. Can I use any kind of blazer?
Answer. A blazer that has a modern cut is preferred.
Question. What kind of buttons will be suitable?
Answer. The buttons have to be cohesive with the stylish attire. If they are too flashy, they might just ruin the jacket.
Things to watch out for
i. You must get the measurements right.
ii. Be creative, but the pieces must complement each other in your design.

The star posted three photos of the shoes that she has designed. Considering the high anticipation around the collection, it might be termed a publicity stunt as well.
Bernhard Williams Autumn Winter 2012 Collection

Nidhi Sinha: Street fashion remained the word of the day at the Bernhard Willhelms much anticipated 2012 A/W collection. The exquisiteness wrapped in the cloak of weird patterns, the emulation engraved in provocative inscriptions and, of course, the thrill of uncanny noises encompassed the runway. With such an outstanding delivery of fashion dipped in the pool of masculinity, the designer left us desiring for more. Have a look at some of the highlights of the Bernhard Williams A/W collection.

Glimpse of Bernhard Williams A/W 2012 collection

The highlights
The collection paid in-depth homage to unearthly prints and flashy allusions to the aspiring bold French audience. The designer swirled his collection mainly around depicting the playful charisma of road culture. A few splashes of paint and dashes of imprinted road signs made the collection emulate the true definition of road work. The runway was also accentuated with plenty of bananas to give the audience a real street experience.
However, between the lines of penning down the loud, frisky dresses, Bernhard did enough justice to the club culture with the clean-cut French fashion. From oversized plaid shirts to deconstructed army jackets with printed chaos, we thoroughly loved the collection.

Bernhard Williams menswear inspired by roadworks

Thumbs up
Outfits were treated with the patchwork of intricate designs, colorful shades, subtle street mood, and were finished off with funky aviators and preppy hats. We also witnessed some of the models wearing long, weird beards and moustache, which maybe, was the characterization of 90s fashion and street style. The highlight of the entire collection, however, was the bared-chest jacket with an upside down printed inscription. The ruffled look at the shoulder with throngs of fabrics flowing down and the long, dramatic chain gave the models silhouette a kiss of masculinity.
While intricate detailing helped in maintaining the complexity of the outfits, inclusion of everyday accouterments like pleated shorts, tailored hoodies and draped cardigans asserted the meaning of wearable items. Androgynous appeal given to some of the outfits might help the designer to cramp up his markets collection later. Plus, the references made to Aztec and African fashion could also help flourish its market in middle east- if people of that region love embracing unusual fashion.

Thumbs down
Although the collection was unique and expressive, it hardly showcased any outfit that could perfectly make its way to mens wardrobe. Some dresses like frayed up shirts and furry leggings looked like if Bernhard had serious budget constraints while preparing his collection. Flowery beards, oversized jackets, unimaginable accessories like chains resembling electrical wires and unorganized rugs, downplayed the magic of the entire collection. Overall, the collection was unusual and, in fashion language, innovative. There were certain outfits that made us marvel and there were some that hit the wrong fashion note.

Either you call the collection cool or a haven of strange, monochrome outfits, Bernhard’s 2012 A/W collection was truly an innovative attempt at menswear and androgynous sartorial pieces.
