Let's face it. Chocolates are great but who needs the extra calories? For Valentine's Day, I'm all about the techy gadgets and let's be honest, you can only have so many iPods, right? This year, at the top of my list is this HP Mini 210 in red. Starting at just $279.99 this little net book gem will fit in your handbag and keeps you connected when you are on the go!

Here are more picks for stylish gadgets for Valentine's Day:

HP DreamScreen 100 ($199.99 after rebate on HP.com)
A great way to watch all your digital photos, connect to facebook, listen to internet radio and more!

Flip Camcorder with Graffiti Love Hearts Design by David Arquette & Corteney Cox ($199.99 for MinoHD)
This is just plain super cute!

Vestalife Lady Bug II Speakers ($99.95 at Apple Store)
Insert your iPod Touch or iPhone to play music. The flaps fold up into a cute ladybug!

Nikon Coolpix S620 12.2MP Digital Camera ($213 at Amazon)
I love this dusty pink color which looks much more stylish on a night out!

YOOX Valentines Day Shoes

I know, I know. Most of the men-folk who would actually benefit from a not-so-subtle guide to Valentine’s Day gifts for their shoe-loving sweeties are likely preoccupied by today’s big game. And yes, I know many women will be watching, too (the Superbowl, for those truly unaware few out there today).
But, I am making the effort nonetheless. Call it a public service. If the half-time ads are particularly unimpressive, at least you’ll have today’s online shoe-break covered. And, if you can get your sweetie to take a peek and perhaps start thinking shoes rather than roses and chocolate, I call that situation a shoe-diva win.
Luckily, the staff over at YOOX have gone out of their way to find every red, pink, purple, or heart-themed shoe currently offered at the site.

The majority of these, whether the subtle, heart-shaped peep-toe, or the not-so-subtle heart appliques, come to us from the creative mind of Marc Jacobs. However, please notice that both Gucci & Prada have at least one entry into this whole ‘Heart and Sole’ fantasy.
Is a statement shoe announcing “Happy Valentine’s Day” to the world with every flashy step the shoe for you?

Now that the 2010 Sundance Film Festival has ended and Im back home, everyone asks me if I saw Robert Redford. I did indeed! Each year he surprises me with his style. Last year, he wore a beret to the opening day press conference and this year he wore a western-inspired ensemble. And that hair! Oh my!
At some point during the festival, I picked up a Sundance catalog. The outfit on the front cover (peasant blouse, cardigan, and skinny jeans tucked into low boots) intrigued me, and the catalog is actually rather awesome! In addition to clothes, jewelry, and furniture, Sundance sells some great shoes!
Here are some of my favorites courtesy of Mr. Redford:

These are the boots that I loved on the cover of the catalog. Shay boot for $148.

Im always looking for new ballet flats and I love how fun the big bow is on this pair. Bella Ballerina flats for $128.

I am dreaming of a summer spent on the beach and am loving gold sandals right now! I think Im going to buy these shoes! Cassandra sandals for $128.

These suede sandals are so cute and high! Angelique sandals for $98.

I love her recent post on the Insider's Guide to LA with a list of her favorite shopping spots. (I love Resurection!) The photography on the site is beautiful and her posts so far are fun. I'm looking forward to reading this blog regularly and seeing more of her real personality shine through. Go Taylor!

And read this recent interview with Smashbox Studios to get the scoop on her fashion creativity and life after Rachel Zoe.

This style, similar to the Gattaz, was on sale for $250.

But it was really this boot, on sale for $300, that I fell for. With a suede upper part of its upper and a leather lower portion, a diagonal buckle, fine, precise stitching, the sirenesque color and a practical wedge, it was a practical stunner with the best of many worlds.

Unfortunately, I just didn’t think it looked as dynamite on.

At least, not $300 dynamite. Good construction, average looks when on.
Here is a similar pair or Arches online for sale on Ebay.

Though I wasn’t able to find the shoes below online, you can purchase them at your local Pucci store. If you’re buying Pucci in-store, I’m guessing you don’t need to worry that much about prices, and I’m jealous!
What do you think of the whole black and white graphic look? It’s got an element of tough and punk.

These black and white open toe graphic pumps are my fave that I’ve ever seen at Pucci. Love them! Very hip and fun and clean.

Not such a fan of the prissy-punk-in-white-patent look, but they’re kinda fun with a white stocking for a monochromatic look. Now if only someone would invent stockings so strong that they’ll never run when worn with open toe shoes or peep toe pumps!

A ton of money goes into ad campaignsas the fashionindustry triesto convince usto purchase their product. The US fashion industry alone spent $144 billionon advertising last year.Several lineshave released some of their ads for Spring and Summer 2010. Some are great, some are not.Let’s have a look.
Balenciaga

Cesare Paciotti

Jimmy Choo

I am weary of the pouting, leggy girl, wearing nothing more thanlingerie, heels and a come hither look, sitting or laying on a sofa/chair, with soft focus. Virtually every shoe, handbag, fragrance, lingerie, andcosmeticadvertisement features at least three of these components. Snore.
Alexander McQueen’s ad is visually striking. It took mea whileto find the shoes, then the girl. It’s a great ad, but the only thing I see is snakes.

Humor in adsalmost always attracts me, which is why this Giuseppi Zanotti is one of my favorites. I can’t decide which is cuter, the boy or the shoe.

If the product is not attractive, such as the Alexander McQueen or Balenciaga shoes, then a striking advertisement will make no difference. I’m not buying it.With the Paciotti and Choo shoes, the ad is tiresome, but it does let me get a look at the shoes. The Zanotti ad is able to feature a shoe and not annoy me. It does it’s job. Which ads work for you, which ones don’t?

Which Way Tunic ($48)

Four Petal Cardi ($88)

Soft Patch Cardi ($88)

Hello, Good Day Dress ($118)

Grevy's Wedges ($158)

Shoes colored left and right.

Hourglassed

Down the center

I love that the shoes mirror the dresses. Would you wear these shoes without wearing the dress? The top pair that are different color, but obviouslya pair, are probably my favorite. And yes, I would wear them, without the colorblocked dress.

Every year at Sundance I see celebrities in the cutest footwear and feel inspired to buy new shoes! I stay at a hotel on Main Street, and therefore walk by Mary Janes (613 Main Street, Park City, Utah 84060) every day! I cant help but look in the windows and admire the shoes. Mary Janes a great selection of shoes and a lovely staff to match! This always leads to buying at least one pair of shoes before the film festival ends!I just found out that the store has a website! I have not ordered anything online (yet!), but its a nice alternative if you cant make it to Park City.

Here are a few of my favorite shoes currently at Mary Janes:

Frye Maxine Shortie for $285 at Mary Jane’s (or $287.95 at Endless and $298 at Zappos)

Pink Studio Allyson Flat for $79 at Mary Jane’s

Jeffrey Campbell Pepper Booty for $155 at Mary Jane’s

Not just a few isolated department stores or boutiques are chucking out the winter pinks and bringing in the late winter/early spring cruise reds. A visit to Bottega Veneta on 5th Avenue showed that saucy reds are back, whether for business or pleasure.

I love these red pinstriped pants for work! Celebs like Ashley Greene and Penelope Cruz were entranced with the red pinstriped suit Bottega Veneta showed on the runway. Penelope looks smashing in red, I think, but I would’ve made the suit tighter on her, wouldn’t you? She’s got those sexy curves to flaunt!

The Pourpre Calf Sandal is $920.

Inside the cavernous Bottega Veneta space, there were more lovelies, but they wouldn’t let me take any photos, so please check out the lovely shoes and bags here.

The outfit is like Bjork’s swan dress. Heinous, but it got her photo onto virtually every web site around. (Including this one.)

I don’t think this is what Alexander McQueen had in mind for these shoes.

With the 2010 Sundance Film Festival winding down this weekend, I wanted to post a few photos I took capturing my favorite cold weather style.
Heres Robert Redford, the founder of Sundance, in his cowboy boots at the opening day press conference. I love how his cowboy boots complement his Western shirt!

Next up is Julianne Moore (with co-star Mark Ruffalo) at the premiere of her new much-praised film The Kids Are All Right. Her black boots with wooden soles look so stylish with her black pants and fuzzy sweater/vest combo. I love how the outfit offsets Julianne Moores pale skin and bright red hair!

And finally, a group shot of lovely ladies in great boots! This is the entire cast of Please Give (Amanda Peet, Catherine Keener, Rebecca Hall, Sarah Steeleat, Director Nicole Holofcener, and Oliver Plattat) the films premiere. Amanda Peet, Rebecca Hall, and Catherine Keener were all sporting high black boots!

Seeing all of these actresses in great boots makes me want to go shopping! And, of course, Robert Redford has inspired me to buy a new pair of cowboy boots!

Angelos: The Boot Experts

Angelo’s is the kind of place where the owner puts his wife on the phone to say hello to you and give you more information over the phone. It’s that mom-and-pop shop, truly a relic of the past. I worry that someday these shoe repair stores will turn all corporate, but with how difficult and unpleasant the job of fixing shoes can be, I think these small operations will hold out a little while longer. Angelo’s even sells faux-antiquey canes!

It’s located down in the E/V subway stop at 53rd Street and 5th Avenue. For years, I’ve been loyal to pricey Shoe Service Plus, where Vogue sends their shoes and where I’ve gotten many a designer purchase or designer thrift shop find retooled, but with a diminished income, I found myself looking for a new place to go.
Now, I’ve only had one pair of shoes repaired at Angelo’s, and nothing altering the leather. But so far, they did a winner of a job. My beautiful black leather boots with awful soles got a Vibram half-sole, a new rubber heel, a shine, and protective taps on both the toe and heel for a total of $35. They were brand new boots when they came out.
They’re known as the boot specialists, who can tighten or loosen the calf portion of the upper, lower heels and do various other repairs.
During lunch, all the businessmen of Midtown plunk themselves down in chairs like this, chairs that are in underground passageways to Grand Central, chairs in stores like this, chairs even on the street, and get a proper shoe shine. Businessmen in Midtown wouldn’t be caught dead with less shiny shoes than the businessman next to them in meetings. But rarely do I see a woman in these chairs.

Angelo’s also has orthotics, inserts of every kind imaginable, and polish and protectants across the spectrum. Much wider selection than at many other stores. As a shoe accoutrement junky, I’m loving it. I’ve been wearing Pedag inserts for years (despite owning custom-made orthotics that are uncomfortable), but I’ve been thinking about trying these.

And I know my brother will thank me if I get him some of this Sneaker Shampoo for his Dunks. Should probably pick him up some Odor Eater too. You know, it’s the subtle hints that work. Haha.

Men-in-Boots High Boots!

I encountered this creative gentleman in Grand Central Terminal, drinking his coffee and waiting for a friend. He wasn’t a native speaker of English, so our interview was limited, but when I asked him where he got his boots he just smiled and said, “London.” Do you know where in London, I asked. “I don’t know. Somewhere. Maybe I think Soho.”
When I pointed to his kilt, top and the studs and rivet, he said, “I made them all.” You made the skirt “Yes, I make. I didn’t make jacket, but I put all these in jacket,” he said, pointing to the studs lining the lapels and pockets of his jacket. Wow!

Anyhow, how do you feel about men in pointy, heeled, high boots? Think your man or best friend could carry it off beneath his jeans or with a pair of shorts or a kilt? I’ve been seeing an awful lot of classy leather man-bags around these days and I’m starting to think men’s fashion is getting a little more fun, slowly, bit-by-bit.

John Paul Gaultier’s theme this yearwas Mexican. The story is that he attended an exhibition on Montezuma, the Aztec emperor, last yearwhich set his inspiration for this line. I had to look at some of these pieces several times. Some grew on me, others did not. Let’s have a look.
I am not feeling these two pieces.

Initially, I didn’t see anything remarkable about this next outfit until I saw the purse. Then I looked at the shoes. Finally, I really looked at the suit. Now I love it.

How cool is this purse?

The shoes are just as much fun.

Here is another purse. I think these purses are wonderful.

While the dress below has a lot of neat components, it comes off more like a costume.

I think this dress is amazing. Not because it is drop dead gorgeous, but because the workmanship in this dress is so amazing.

So, what do you think? Yay or nay on this line? I think I want a margerita for dinner.

I took my time in showing you the Chanel Couture line because i thought it would grow on me. I am ambivalent about it. Lagerfield used silver and pastels-a nice combination, but overall, I don’t get it. The shoes are silver rococo heel booties, but they aren’t anything I would obsess about. Let’s take a look.
Here is a formal dress outfit. I have a niece getting married in February. When I sent this photo to her as a suggestion for what the groom could wear, she removed me from her facebook friends.

Here are the shoes.

A less formal look.

Maybe I am missing something. Do you see something I don’t?
