Creative Vado Pocket Video Cam - easy, easy, easy

We got an early Vado video cam from Creative Labs to play with - in bright pink no less - and we're here to report that the hardest part of the set-up was getting it out of the Fed Ex box.

Simply put in the rechargable battery, plug it into the USB port, power, then shoot and play (the software is built-in). To copy videos to your computer, click "Copy." Duh. Posting your videos to YouTube or PhotoBucket is done at the click of a button, too.

About the size of a deck of cards and weighing less than most cell phones, it's the most portable camcorder around. Get up to two hours of video with the one button recording. (The closest competitor camcorder on the market would be the Flip, which is only slightly larger and twenty dollars more).

Luxe For Less: Sales, sales, sales!

I pine, I dream, I plan for the Net-a-Porter sale and it’s finally here! Yesterday, while I was supposed to be 1) working and 2) scouring the internet and writing up this second installment of Luxe For Less, I was shamefully oooohing, ahhhhing and clicking away at NAP’s offerings. While I’ve since relinquished my credit cards to my much more sale-stoic BF for safekeeping, I’m happy to report that there are still designer handbag bargains to be had! My pickings at NAP:
This Vivienne Westwood Gloucester Lapin Bowling Bag for $1,460.

I kid, I kid! I’ve lost my self-respect this sale season, not my mind! In case you’re not sure how I feel about this bag, read my previous review.
This Jimmy Choo Mona Large Tote.

While many of us are familiar with Jimmy Choo’s fantastically chic and uberly sexy stiletto heels, his foray into handbags has been a little less well-received. The Ramona garnered followers but his later bag designs lacked the same break through. This Mona Large Tote offers up the same aesthetic sense that made Choo the household name he is: strong lines with an undeniable femininity. In a classic tote shape, this Mona Tote will lend itself to practicality, without sacrificing appeal. But wait! You didn’t mistake those zippers for mere ornamentation, did you? In a pinch, this tote unzips down the middle to reveal a roomier, more fabulous self. Genius! At the original price of $1,995, it was an investment. At the lower, NAP sale price of $1,396, it’s still an investment, but you’ll feel less bad! ;o)
Also at the NAP sale, this Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Butterfly Clutch

Of the major handbag designers, Bottega Veneta is arguably the most unassuming and under-appreciated. I find that fans of Bottega love the cache that comes with carrying a bag only recognizable to other fans, and will keep coming back to the designer for more timeless pieces. There’s a reason: the leather used by Bottega Veneta for pieces such as the one I’m recommending is buttery, rich and heavenly sumptuous. Touch a Bottega Veneta bag and you’ll understand what I’m talking about — there are just no words. Couple that with impeccable workmanship and elegant, timeless designs and you’ll glimpse the reason for Bottega’s following. A great way to discover a designer’s potential without mortgaging your home? Small leather goods! This clutch in the signature woven design, will serve many purposes (evening purse, Sunday brunch clutch, makeup bag) and will last you forever… and turn you into a Bottega convert. Trust me. Originally $770 (worth every penny! One of my favorite clutches is a 10 year old BV one!) but a steal at $385!
Of course, when one retailer has a sale, many follow. Nordstrom is one such place. My pick from their very limited selection:
This Juicy Couture Link All Night Hobo

I’m not normally a Juicy Couture fan, but this bag has the makings of a classic — shocker for JC! While I can’t vouch for their quality personally, I’ve heard that their bags do stand up to mid-range snuff. So I’m going out on a limb and recommending this classic hobo. Stark white may not seem practical but it actually is a sound investment — it coordinates with most other colors but provides a very tailored, chic contrast. The gold toned links add a little more depth and eye interest. At 40% off the original price of $395, this $236 bag may be worth the risk.
And lastly, this Marc Jacobs Striping Tote

I realize I brought you a Marc Jacobs recommendation in last week’s Luxe for Less, but this deal is so good, I couldn’t not recommend it. This is the Marc Jacobs Striping Tote, launched in late 2005-early 2006. It remains one of the most coveted lines by Marc Jacobs. Personally, I think it may be his best line and own more than a handful of pieces from it. While the Hudson, a satchel, was the most popular from the Striping Line, this Tote may be the least recognized. It is a medium-large handbag that may be carried as a satchel, a tote or a messenger with the detachable strap. I find this design very practical and wish I had picked it up when it was still available. Long discontinued, this tote rarely pops up on eBay, and never in this condition. And never at this unbelievable price! This bag passes my own smell test on authenticity. Pick it up at just $545 BIN!
As always, if you’re looking for something in particular that you think I might be able to help with, drop me a line in the comments. Check back next Tuesday for my Luxe for Less picks! Happy shopping!

You asked and we listened. Here are Ten bags under $1,000 that you are always requesting. Not to sound like a snob or anything but who knew this price point was so hard to stay under? I cheated on one bag that was around $1200-- it was just too cute to pass up. I noticed a pricing trend, most bags were under $600 or under $1200. Next time I will do a top 12 under $1200, that should be easier. I stayed away from Marc Jacobs bags and other obvious choices but discovered some cool indie designers along the way, this was fun! Enjoy
1. Luella Agnes Shoulder Bag $920- this shimmering bag is an eye catcher, and the quilted snakeskin is so edgy and fun! Very 70s and London girl about the city. Metallic is a nice neutral for all the bright and bold dresses we're seeing this season. At Net a Porter

Have I mentioned I'm currently in Australia? (Only a few hundred times, right? I'll stop soon, I promise.) Well, one of the things I wish I had brought with me from home is my iPod speakers, but they were just a little bulky/heavy for travel, so I left them behind and have regretted it bitterly ever since.

What I should have done is bought one of these little beauties: the icetech Duette.

That one may look rather large in close-up, but trust me: "little" really is the operative word here, as this compact speaker is just 1.4 in x 2.3 in x 1.8 in. It can be plugged into any standard MP3 headphone jack and Crave attests that it doesn't sound bad, which is pretty much all you can ask for something which is this small and available for just $12.99 from Amazon.

Easy and Yummy Cake

Last night, I meant to open a can of evaporated milk, but accidentally opened a can of sweet condensed milk. I didn’t want the sweet condensed milk to go to waste, so I asked my mom what I should make with it. She suggested this simple and yummy cake.
You’ll need:

Box of cake mix - You’ll also need the ingredients to make the cake, which are probably eggs, oil, and water. Or if you’re feeling up to it, you can make a cake from scratch.
14 oz can of sweet condensed milk
container of Cool Whip or whipped topping
coconut (optional)

Make the cake according to the directions on the box and cook it in a 9×13 cake pan. Allow the cake to cool for a bit, leave the cake in the pan, and pour the can of condensed milk over the cake. Allow the milk to spread over the cake and drain down in the sides. Let it sit for a few minutes and then spread all of the Cool Whip over the cake. Top with coconut, if desired. Refrigerate cake. It is probably best to let this cake sit for a while before eating so that the milk can soak up inside the cake.Let me know how it turns out.
Have you made a cake like this one before?

The ceiling is in, and it looks like display fixtures are arriving to be placed. With a minimalist dcor and walls that are mostly glass windows, there's not all that much finishing left to be done. This bag reminds me very much of a bag by Tsumori Chisato (except that had a zipper). So much so, that I can't escape a feeling that I've featured it already. The skin gives the bag a lovely subtle sheen, perfectly complemented by the gold chain shoulder strap, threaded with like colored leather...it's long enough that the bag rests at hip level. It's probably long enough to wear across the body, but this is just too feminine a bag for that. The bag closes with a top zipper, and is lined in leather. It is currently available in black, or tan and costs $575.

Getting to network with other entrepeneurs - fascinating. Speeches by experts in tech and entertainment - valuable. Getting face-to face with VCs - priceless

The same folks who run Dealmaker LA put on the yearly Under The Radar conference at the MSFT campus in Mountain View, CA June 3, which they boast is "Silicon Valley's most effective one-stop shop for networking and deal flow." This year, UTR will showcase 40 vetted and test-driven startups in the entertainment and social media space, all with the intention of getting deals done. Friends of mine who have gone told me it was the best $650 they ever spent (for a one day event). Just as an example, past participants at UTR include Flickr, Jumpcut, Photobucket, and Userplane, which as we all know, went on to big success.

As the theme this year is social media and entertainment, expect 350 entrepreneurs, VCs, and senior business/corporate development executives from large tech and media companies including: Disney, Fox Interactive, Google, IAC, Microsoft, MySpace, Yahoo, Adobe, AKQA, CAA, William Morris Agency, CBS Interactive, Vivendi Universal, CondeNet, Columbia Pictures, and Nielsen.

Getting a chance to showcase their companies are some early adaptors in the social media space:

Hola Amigos!!!! Freshly back from the beach I've been looking for a new foundation...as much as I would like it, no SPF & sun hat in the world is going to keep my face from getting SOME color (and what about the whole melanin-mustache/hyper-pigmentation thing REGARDLESS of how hard I try and protect it? I wish someone could've given me a book on what to expect from my skin after I hit 30...

And as you all know I jumped on the mineral makeup bandwagon with both feet a few years back....so when I heard of new mineral makeup line that offered anti-aging benefits I just HAD to try it...when I found out it was developed by a dermatologist I got even more hot and bothered.

Check out DYG Mineral Makeup! Created by Dianne York-Goldman co-founder and president of the acclaimed La Jolla Spa MD along with dermatologist Dr. Mitchel P. Goldman, this makeup line offers benefits that no other line can claim right now....(can you IMAGINE if your hubby was a dermatologist?) I'm sorry but I would be like "Honey..be sure to bring home those 5mls of Botox and the Cortisone injections from work..I've had another breakout and the kids have really been making me mad today" I'd probably have a separate "injection" room in my house....lol...yeah, it's funny but kinda sad at the same time....)!

But seriously, I was delighted with the results of their Liquid Powder Foundation SPF 15 ($42). Vanilla Creme was the perfect match for my post-Mexico face and it went on like a dream. This oil-free foundation has a wonderful souffle-like texture that smooths onto the skin seamlessly - then dries down to a beautiful matte finish without looking too powdery (I still set with loose powder because I am a freak like that...) BUT if I was hip and could get over it, this stuff really needs no powder at all....one difference I noticed with this liquid-to-powder foundation right away was that it didn't dry down too fast...so it gives you plenty of blending time (my favorite method of application with this one is with a makeup sponge) blending out and then stippling where you need more coverage.

It gave me medium-to-full coverage and I found that if you need additional concealer, taking a small concealer brush and using the more concentrated, dried product off the cap works great....very pigmented and hides like a dream.. It's an all-in-one - worked wonderful under eyes, no creasing or caking but enough coverage to hide my circles (and they are pretty bad..it's a hereditary thing...thanks Dad)!

Oh yeah....and what is different about DYG? Dianne and the doctor worked together to formulate a one-of-a-kind anti-aging ingredient called Vitaphenol. Vitaphenol is delivered to the skin in all their mineral formulas and is one of the most powerful antioxidant complexes to hit the market today. It contains a blend of pomegranate, magnosteen and green and white tea extracts to protect the skin from all the usual suspects....That, along with the SPF and you are good to go girls!

So yeah, I am happy. I really enjoy this makeup and it is so easy...one product for my entire face..eyes, zits, brown spots and all..

DYG cosmetics are available for purchase at www.dygcosmetics.com or by calling their makeup boutique @ 858.459.6868.

Be Beautiful Ya'll!!!

Ok, so I might be just too prudish or cheap, but I was watching Fox News this morning and heard a story about a doctor (I am using that term loosely) in Boston, Dr Norman Spack, who not only approves of offering sex changes for children as young as 7, but performs them. Now I might be old fashioned but I had no idea what a sex change was at 7, much less want one. There is a reason why you have to be 16 in most states to operate a car, 18 to vote and smoke, and 21 to drink. Your ability to make decisions grows with your maturity.
Am I missing something? There are no 7 year olds that I know of that are responsible enough to realize the gravity of the situation. Most 7 year olds are just trying to learn how to match clothes and bring home all their homework. They usually think the opposite sex has cooties still. Why would they even be thinking about a difficult surgery like that? Curious about the opposite sex, of course. We all have heard of kids playing “doctor” at this age or even earlier and we try to protect our kids from that. But what parent in their right mind would let their kids have this surgery this early in life. Where are real parents these days.
Now, besides the absurdity of the issue, HELLO!! No insurance company is going to pay for a sex change for a 7 year old. Why would these parents give up that money?!?!?!
I would much rather see parents spoil their children with solid gold toilets than to spend that much money on a sex change for a 7 year old. At least spoiling kids can be reversed with less tragedy to the child. That should tell you about how I feel about this issue.
You are going to have to show me a really good reason why this should be ok because I am only seeing the negative side of this issue.
